Hyka would be a good choice should we add a pick or two at the draft, but ultimately I feel like the first few picks have to focus on defense. I wouldn't be opposed to finding some trades that get us a 2nd rounder in this deep draft tho. Bob maybe? If a team will bite...

Bill, any players you see the Flyers looking to move up in the first for?

I love that you write so much about the 80's teams, Bill. My memories of the 70's teams are cemented because of the knowledge of my dad and his friends always talking about them when he'd watch them faithfully. The 80's were when I was watching on my own and my memories of events aren't as clear as my memories from the 90's to the present.

So, reading your works (here, your book, and your sundry articles on the internet) about the Flyers of the 1980's decade helps flesh it out in my mind. Thanks for that.

Also, it is most appreciated that you blog during the season. The fact that you blog almost every day during the offseason is what puts you head and shoulders above the average hockey writer. I look forward to a summer of insightful hockey reading.

Happy hockey,
Michael

As you know, I think the Flyers should -- and will -- focus on the best available player and will not draft by positional need.

I do think there's a chance the Flyers move up (or down) in the draft. Impossible to say who they're targeting unless they were to move up into the top four.

Thank you. I plan on making a "Today in Flyers' History" sub-section a regular part of the summertime blogs whenever there is not a significant topic involving the current team to discuss.

I think its best that they draft as you say "by best player available" instead of positional need because (and you may have said this already but I can't quite remember) because it usually takes 4-5 years to develop players. Not everyone is a Sean Couturier or Steven Stamkos such is the case with JVR and the significant amount of fans who are rather impatient with him. Especially with a defensemen when we look at guys like Matt Carle and Brayden Coburn and they are just starting to hit their potentials imo anyway. So if we go after a Defenseman that player might not even have a chance to make the roster as a Flyer because by the time he's developed, he's most likely traded due to the landscape of the team changing.

I agree. They should take the best player available, just hoping that turns out to be a denfenseman.

I just realized Tampa has two 1st's AND two 2nd's. It'd be real nice if we could get a 2nd out of them. Bob would be a nice add for them and with 4 picks in the first two rounds a 2nd for Bob wouldn't break the bank for them.

Also, (and I have zero evidence to base this on so go easy on me) but I just have this gut feeling that JVR is going to be moved to the Jets. I don't know why the Jets but I can totally see JVR for Enstrom or JVR for the 9th overall(and trade equalizers) happening.

Personally if I'm TB, I'm not giving up a 2nd round pick for Bobrovksy, nor would I be looking at him as a possible starter. I'd be looking for a far more experienced and established player.

Never said as a starter. And with picks to spare he'd be a solid add for them. Thats all.

Why would they give up a 2nd round pick for him if it wasn't to be a starter?
They could get a Goalie prospect equal to Bobrovsky using the pick themselves, or even using a later pick.

Flyers should hold on to JvR. Let him get a full healthy season under his belt. I really see JvR developing into an all-star winger. He's already signed to a nice deal through 2017-2018 which I believe will be a bargain in a season or 2.

It's okay we needed another potential goon in Derek Mathers instead.

NBC's Howard Eskin strongly hinted that JvR has held off getting hip surgery to avoid being traded to Sea Isle, er, Columbus and that Holmgren is "upset"

2 be clear on what I reported on Sports Final @NBCPhiladelphia sun night. Flyers JVR delaying having surgery torn labrum. Could holdup trade

To continue Flyers like Rick Nash and a "possible" trade really can't happen until JVR is 100 percent. JVR delaying surgery on torn Labrum

Doesn't specifically say that JvR's delaying to avoid a trade. The worst part about those tweets is the Flyers interest in Nash.

On the TV report, he was pushing that angle...the tweets are not a 180 away from what he said on TV, but he definitely downplayed the whole angle of JvR's intentions on twitter.
